In my early years as a music therapist I worked with children and young people with Autism. I also worked with pre-school age children with learning difficulties and with adults with mental health issues.
In more recent years I have helped establish and run MusicPlace. My job involves setting up new music therapy projects as well supporting the rest of the team. I have continued to work as a therapist with clients both at our MusicPlace base and on an outreach basis in different NHS settings in Liverpool.
Victor Hugo said ‘Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent’. For me, this sums up the wonderful way in which music can facilitate someone’s communication and give them a ‘voice’.
